My Cute Pets

My Cute Pets

The flash game My Cute Pets is designed for SPILL GROUP which is a multinational headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The most worth mentioning in the project is that this game has TWELVE language-versions: English, Brazilian, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Indian, Swedish and Chinese. The localization work is so unbearably.

You can see this game here(the English Version): http://www.agame.com/game/My-Cute-Pets.html

Of course you can also find the Spill Group's web-sites in other languages.

OurTank

OurTank Flash Game - by Mess

Ourtank is like the original Nintendo game TANK (a classical and unfailing game), and I made it more colorful and brilliant. In the game there're 7 kinds of scenes: urban, port, army base, ancient ruin (like the Great Wall), snowy land, desert and jungle. Actually, every building element can be combined together and builds up any scene if you want.

We've developed a backstage system to edit the battle map and set the hardness of each building element.

This game is still in test. I'll give you the address when it's finished.

Aya Aya Poppin!

Aya Aya Poppin! - Cover

The first game we designed for the Ourgame company. Aya Aya Poppin! is from a classic casual game (Nintendo's GBA game 'Puzzle League') and I added lots of new elements into the system.

WitchCraft: Necromancy

WitchCraft: Necromancy - Menu

I designed WitchCraft: Necromancy when WitchCraft: Alchemy is finished. Also, it's a card game which the style is still occident medieval.

Before each round in this card game, you decide how many demons you think you can summon. You score points for summoning the number of demons you predicted. If you summon too many or too few demons, you don't get any points. WitchCraft: Necromancy is a strategy card game for 3 to 6 players in which knowing your own potential is key.

A 66-card deck made up of five suits of SPELL cards (purple, blue, green, red, and orange) numbered 1 through 12, and 6 HACATA cards. The first player to score 100 or more points wins the game.

All the opponents in the game are real people, e.g. Dr. John Dee(an English Elizabethan occultist), Apollonius(a centurial Pythagorean philosopher and a mathematician) and Robert Boyle(Irish-born British physicist and chemist).

Whereas, the game is not finished yet, I just designed it already. Maybe sometimes when there's another Flash Game Contest, Xia and I would probably make it out.

Ninja Scroll

Flash Game - ninja scroll

Ninja Scroll is another game for the book Flash Groupware, Game-making & Encryption.

The game's system is like the flash game A daily cup of tea in ferryhalim.com, but I made the mice into two little cute ninjas (red and white). Also I changed the enemies into some cute Japanese monsters.

I did a supereminent job on drawing the background for this game. You can see the wall, sliding doors and the exquisite roof in the screenshot.

WitchCraft: Witch Chess

Flash Game - Witch Chess - by Mess

WitchCraft: Witch Chess is another game from GameWitch Studio. It's a simple game, just like Sudoku, but I decrease the 9X9 grid into 5X5. And there's one more rule: the 5 symbols can't be repeated on the 2 diagonals.

I explained the complete process of this game-making in my book Flash Groupware, Game-making & Encryption.

You can taste it here: http://messbook.net/templet.php?acticle_id=54.

Flash Groupware, Game-making & Encryption

Flash Groupware, Game-making & Encryption - Cover

Well this is the first book of mine (even there're other 3 co-authors). When Chen, the editor of Tsinghua University Publish House found Xia and me and told us they wanted us to write a book about flash games, we thought from the bottom of our hearts that there're really plenty of chances in Beijing.

This book, Flash Groupware, Game-making & Encryption, is written for intermediate and advanced developers of flash applications. As you see from the name of the book, there're 3 parts in it, and Xia and I took charge of the main body. The other 2 guys explained the groupware and encryption with their opinions. In this book, I introduced flash games' history, development, its advantages and disadvantages, and how to design and make a flash game (including with design, system creating, arts and sounds).

Writing is so hard, but we still finished, a great piece of work. Only one thing disappointed me is the ugly cover design!

Following is the prologue of the book written by myself (the original is Chinese):

Macromedia Flash, as one of the most popular develop tools, is becoming more and more favourite by developers like us. We make animations with it, and also make interactional applications with it. This Object-Oriented software integrated with lots of media and devices can realize the extraordinary creativities of most un-expert users. The most obvious example of it is the game applications developing with Flash. Xia and I met each other at the end of 2005, then we founded the GameWitch Studio, trying to make some flash games having both artistry and entertainment, and actually we made a hit in a way. But, it's not enough that just exploring by ourselves. It needs everybody to construct and maintain together, it needs more new blood to struggle hand in hand.

We hope everyone can have the courage to come together and carry forward the spirit of "DIY (Do it Yourself)". Although the GameWitch Studio is far away from its top, we still have accumulated lots of experience of game-making. It'll be wonderful if we can find some way to pack up our ideas and thoughts, release them and share with everyone.

It's fortunate that the editor of this book, Chen, contacted with us and gave us the chance. Chen is a knowledgable and exigent expert, and full of patience. He knew the hardship of writting in spare time, so he gave us plenty of time to write and modify, encourage us frequently and gave us lots of suggestions. As a result this book has been published and opened by you. We have to admit that at the beginning we had no ideas of the joys and sorrows of its birth, and surely we shall earn much from the frustration and challenges which we have experienced in the course of writting this book.

In this book, we'll explain the concept of groupware in Flash, and how to make and use them, then we'll talk about how to develop fancy Flash games, at the final we'll tell something theories about the protecting of files and encryption. In the Part III, we'll show 3 complete processes of Flash game-making (including with design, art and script design) to explain how to create original system, express the splendid esthetics and bring up nice programming thoughtways, canonical and compact code. And the same important thing, we'll also explain how can all these come together harmoniously.

Developing Flash games is not very difficult, and we wish that you can make acquainted with the mystery of game-making through this book, then create your brilliant works. We wish we can contribute ourselves to every Flash fans to move forward, step by step.

WitchCraft: Alchemy

WitchCraft: Alchemy Game - Menu - by Mess

I designed this fantastic card game in 2005, them I found a programmer, Xia, who helped me to make it into a flash game. I also took charge of art design and the sounds.

In the WitchCraft: Alchemy card game, the players score points for playing sets of matching cards (as the alchemists get the gold from the elements) - the larger the set the more points they score. But it's not that easy. other players can also score off your card sets and there are plenty of surprise cards. WitchCraft: Alchemy is a strategy card game for 4 players in which players attempt to position themselves for the final leap to the finish.

it's a pity that I used a out-of-date logo from GothicAlchemy as the game's logo.

Whatever, I'm still proud of this project. It's amazing, and as a result it won the 'Best Game Design Award' in National Creative Flash Game Tournament, 2006.
